My daughter bought a GHD Hair straightener from ebay - supposedly 'in stock' and in Sydney.
After paying for the item through ebay (with paypal) the seller asked her to cancel the payment and they would re-send an invoice for payment. Which she did and paid when confirmed first payment was not taken from her paypal account. The invoice they sent was via paypal.
I suggested that it seemed a bit odd and suggested she look into it - she also became suspect and asked seller for a refund to which they agreed.
No refund a week later and seller not responding to any emails, she contacted ebay as she could find no record of the item in her purchases and they informed that the seller had deleted the listing and she should contact paypal.
A dispute was opened. During the time that paypal were investigating the case she recieved a parcel from China which contained a US silver dollar which appears to be a fake. We were not able to work out why this was sent but did not link it to the GHD case until the seller provided paypal with a consignment # which proved item had been sent & recieved! This matched them number on the fake coin & as far as paypal are concerned item has been recieved and transaction complete!
My daughter paid $242 AU for a GHD Hair Straightener and instead got a fake coin!
Paypal so far have not shown any interest in the fact that she was ripped off - as long as they get their fees they are happy!!!
