BI-LO & Coles Broadway
Manager and staff relations

I’d just like to complain about acting store manager Greg at BI-LO Broadway. During my once a week shop in BI-LO Broadway I was walking up an aisle where Greg as well as two other staff members were packing stock onto the shelves.

From the end of the aisle I was able to notice the passive aggressive voice tone and body language with which he addressed the staff. I inquired as to where one of their products had been moved – only to be stood over and treated in a patronizing manner.

After talking to staff from two different areas in the store during what remained of my shop, the general consensus was that he is disliked because of his behaviour, personality and attitude.

“He’s just a brown nose for Ivan who addresses us (the staff) in an intimidating manner”

“He’s very happy with how he has turned out, and combined with his over confidence he’s pretty unapologetic because he always thinks he is right”

I’ve always felt that what appeals to me about this store is the laid back and personal manner which radiates outward from most of the staff.

I’m also going to discontinue shopping at Coles Broadway after hearing firstly with my own two ears and then from multiple staff members as well as other customers that the staff is threatened inappropriately. “There are fourty five thousand unemployed people in Australia; do you want to be the next?”

Generally I’ll concede the store over all does appeal because I feel the standards across the board are good… how unfortunate though that if you’ve once upon a time worked in a Coles chain and know what it’s like to be treated in this way that just one thing can completely disgust you.

Yes indeed it was Christian the store manager whom said this (after scanning their manager/photo board at the front of the store). Perhaps it tip toes around saying it in the completely out of line manner as far as threats go, but regardless I think it is the worst tack to date (and there HAS been a history of threatening in these stores) for tackling staff problems.
• It doesn’t head on the actual problem.
• It doesn’t work to resolve the problem.
• Builds a fear based relationship

To whom it may concern - in both cases rest assured I’m not the only customer who now associates both these store with negative connotations.
