I insured my dog at 8 weeks of age, the earliest you can take out a policy. Vets Own has been very good paying the bills until my dog became very ill with Crushing about 2-3 years ago. Since the bills have increased so has our policy. Last year I had to pay double premiums with a extra 20% co-payment. Then in the middle of this year i was advised that they would no longer pay any more claims associated with Crushing ever again. My policy was renewed this year at the regular premiums but with an extra co-payment of 45%.When I rang to enquire an explanation they informed me that my dog is in the highb risk group and to be fair on those clients with fewer claims they put the extra co - payment on. When I took this policy out it said:- Insure your pet from 8 weeks of age and we will insure them for life!!! But like all insurance companies policies can be changed to suit them. I was even told that in the long run it maybe unfeasible to insure in the future as I will probably p ay out more in insurance cover than I will recoup.p.s If you insure your pet make sure they don't. ge t ill !!!
