Wrong airline was booked

My husband & I booked holiday to Greece and Egypt 2010. Recieved itinerary, everything seemed right. Flew to Kuala Lumpar then to Rome before flying onto Greece. I did ask why we had to stop over at Rome before Athens and was told it was the way unless we went to London first. Too long we thought so opted for this way. Our stop over at Rome was for 9 & a half hours. Long enough anyway!! We arrived Athens at 18: 40 and as we booked through a tour we were expecting to be picked up by a representative by the tour. No one was there to pick us up. My husband's luggage didn't arrive and no one seemed to help us. Good start to our holiday so far!! We caught a taxi to our hotel. Next morning when meeting our tour director she asked what happened to us the day before, as we were not at the airport when they picked us up. What the!! It seems that the tour director's itinerary had us on another airline from Rome to Athens and was supposed to be at the Athens aiport at midday not 6:40 that evening. We showed her our itinerary and she was quite bewildered herself. How could the travel agency make a mistake like that? My husband recieved his luggage 3 days later, so in the mean time had to buy him new clothes. We are not happy with this travel agency and won't be dealing with them again. Will be putting a complaint in to them personally as well and hope noone else has to go through that. It was stressful and put a downer on the start of our holiday.
