My friend and I were at the Burwood East KMart shopping complex walking through the car park. We were stopped by a woman driving a white Van. She told us that she had an "unusual offer" for us. She said that she worked for a home theatre distribution company and that she had a spare set of home theatre speakers which her boss had told her she could get rid off for an unbelievable price.
My friend and I thought it would be good for a laugh so we told her we were interested. She then told us we could open the side of her Van (she didn't get out of the Van). In it were several sets of Fleetwood Speakers. I told her I'd never heard of them, so then she showed me magazine (which I had also never hear off) which had an advert for them showing a price of US $899 ea. She offered a set to us for AU $1200/pair. I told her that I'd be interested for $50.
She then asked us how much cash we had on us. I told her I had less than $10. She asked how much I could get out of the ATM. I told her I was not going to disclose my bank balance to her. After this she left in a real hurry (pitty, I had so much more I wanted to ask her e.g. Cross Over Frequencies, design types, power rating, frequency response curves).
Truth be know, I've heard of these schemes before, and never had any intention of buying, but it was good for a laugh to see what measures rip off people will go to to try and sell you junk.
