Ticket cancelled without refund

I wrongly assumed that buying an $50 ticket meant being able to attend their speed dating. They apparently tried to contact me leading up to the event regarding a need to RSVP to confirm numbers. After only seeing their email the night before the event I replied but the next day they emailed to say that my ticket had been cancelled and that I was not entitled to a refund.
