Steve's Removals
Shoddy Service

Initially KI Removals were to move our furniture, but were ‘suddenly’ unable to it, ringing the day before to say they had organised another company – Steve’s Removals to do the job but it was going to cost me an extra $500.
When Steve arrived, the furniture that was already in the truck was loose and needed to be restacked and properly tied before he could even load my things. Bad from the start, but I had no choice and could not leave my furniture a day longer as I had a flight to catch back to Brisbane and no time to organise someone else. He eventually packed most of my stuff, having to leave a few items which wouldn’t fit.
I was told it would be delivered on the Sunday or Monday, but did not get a call from his driver until Tuesday, saying he would deliver it around 8.30pm. I was not happy with such a late delivery and said I wanted it delivered the next morning (so I could actually see what my furniture looked like). The following morning he would not unload until I had paid in full the $3500 and I did not want to pay until I knew my furniture was ok, but as I needed my things I had to pay up. On top of this, he had no-one with him, which was apparently my fault because he had someone the night before. (So what happened to the other guy? Considering the driver slept out the front of our house in the truck when he arrived – which incidentally was after 9.30, not the stated 8.30!) Consequently, we also had to unload our own furniture, which I thought is what we paid them for!
Almost every piece of furniture had scratches, dents or (like my antique table which was totally in pieces) was broken. An antique hall stand which had an old bevelled piece of glass was broken as was the glass on a large picture frame, wood chipped and broken off furniture etc “That happens in transit – it moves around, screws come loose…..can’t be helped” was his response. The one thing I was relieved at was our slate pool table arrived ok, bar the few scratches and dents it incurred.
Will try to get some compensation, but after reading about others experiences, I doubt very much it will happen.
My advice to anyone moving interstate - Ask other people who they would recommend and research as much as you can before choosing a removal company.
