I hold silver membership with RACV which means I have held multi policy membership for over 10 consecutive years (car and house/contents). I have recently purchased a new car and had forgotten to renew my roadside assist from my previous car. Today I went to get in my car and noticed my front tyre was flat. I was at work, had a full class of students waiting for me to start the afternoons class, it was torrential rain, and I was desperate to keep to my time schedule to make sure I was going o make school pick up some 30 minutes away for my 3 young children. When I called the RACV for roadside assitance I was told that as it would be a new addition to my mutli policy and as I needed it straight way, I would have to pay for two years membership plus and additional $50 because it was a "pre existing condition" ($230). Had I taken out coverage prior to needing it today i could have only paid for one years membership ($90) and no pre exisitng fee (PEF). When I asked if I could only pay the one years membership and the PEF as I was a silver member I was told no. I was offered a 5% discount, which worked out to $215. When I explained that I only had $211 available on my credit card the lady went to check with her supervisor. To my absolute dismay the RACV was not willing to budge $4. I was only offered to either pay cash on the mechanic's arrival or asked if there was someone else they could ask to pay on my behalf. I cannot believe tht over $4 the RACV was unwilling to help me and my loyalty to their company has meant so little. Tomorrow i will be changing all of my insurance to another provider. Very disappointed.
