I was walking into Chadstone shopping centre via the under cover carpark when I heard this guy calling out to me from a white Avis rental van. I approached the drivers side window and noticed there was also a young woman in the passenger seat.
This loser who later identifed himself as Oliver (her name was Nicole) asked me if I wanted to by a surround sound home theater system they had in the back of the van. After asking to see this "state of the art equipment" I was taken to the side door of the van which when opened revealled a number of tower speaker and an aray of other audio merchandise.
After a hurried explanation that he had just dropped some of this gear off at a hi-fi store in the centre and had a dated receipt to match his story, he went on to say that his boss was not interested in him bringing the goods back to the wearhouse because it would cost him too much to send it back to the U.S. A glossy brochure was shoved under my nose stating the worth of the goods... apparently 7000-8000 U.S.$
I managed to take these worthless bits of junk off his hands for $1500.... what a bargin.
When I got home I thought I might ask a friend to research my new purchase on the web and was then that I've realised the trap I let myself walk into.
You have to hand it to these wankers, their acting skills and enthusiasm is second to none. However dont be fooled like I was, this is nothing but an elaborate scam run by a bunch of low life con artists.
However if it's of any consilation after being made to feel like a bit of an idiot there is light at the end of this sewer.
YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK. After following the refund conditions on the back of my receipt and alot of stuffing around, persistant phone calls and a few grey hairs I managed to get my money back in full. Dont take no for an answer.
