At 43 years, I am not accustomed to having to get permission to manage my finances. However, thanks to the fact that I am on my husband's medical aid, this is exactly what I have to do if I wish to become a vitality member.
I am the family member who manages family finances - my husband works in places like Iraq and Guinea where he does not have reliable access to internet or phone YET the only way I can do anything on OUR medical aid is if HE instructs it.
This is sexist, disempowering &insulting. Every other financial institution allows me authority on his accounts which means I can transact as him if required. I pay my share of the medical aid and am not a DEPENDANT. I earn my own money and manage my own affairs.
ONLY Discovery seems to think that a spouse has no rights what so ever and must get permission from her husband in order to manage her family's financial affairs.
