Complaint against the mobile apps company named Mobegen Ltd for unfair charges for their mobile apps.
I was prompted to download battery booster apps by some free apps and when I downloaded battery booster, it never told me about the charges. I didn’t find the app very useful so I uninstalled it next day. Today when I saw my mobile online account, I see a charge of 41.18$. I called up the Optus customer care and rather than helping, the lady was more on defensive side saying you must have downloaded some apps and must have sent some premium sms.. Upon my insist, she said that she can provide the number of company that charged because optus is just billing platform. She asked me to call the 1300661263 but unfortunately even they didn’t had any details and they asked me to call Mobegen directly at 1300888751. I have been trying to call 1300888751 and when I press 2 to speak to customer care, it turns silent and the call ends. It looks like they are getting so much complaints that they have turned their customer care line off.
Regarding the apps, I got 3 sms saying “FreeMsg: Thank you for your purchase of your DROIDSNACK on 19917849. $3.00/msg sent. Mobegen 1-300-661-263” on 28th Aug at 8:50 AM, 9:11 AM, 9:20 AM. I haven’t made any purchase in reference to this infact I don’t know what this is. If for a second, I assume that this is the charges of app download then why 3 sms for a single reference number 19917849? and on what basis 41.18$ were charged to my number. I see this as unfair practice to charge any amount to customer without any proper details provided to customer. This is also wrong on Optus as they are charging me so I have every right to get detailed description of what is being charged to me.
I have written to the customer care now but i don’t expect any reply from them looking at the status of their customer care phone line.
