Theft, fraud, unauthorised credit card debits

Beauty & Appearance

Like others who have written on this site I have had my credit card fraudulently used for the past two months. I applied for a sample pack of White Smile having seen it first on the New York Times internet site and then in a leading Sydney newspaper. I was prepared to spend the $15 the offer entailed and was billed in Nov 09 for $20.80. Now my credit card account has been debited for a total of $A222.63!!! under the company names listed. The product is useless. My bank told me that these companies are fakes and filled me in on all the other scam products they promote. It certainly wiped the smile off my face. The first thing to do of course is call your bank, cancel your card and lodge a complaint. I have been buying on-line for many years and have never been caught out before for the simple reason I've known the companies I've been dealing with and know that they are legitimate. The fact that this product appeared on a site such as the New York Times gave me no reason to suspect it was suss. Complacency crept in. Never again. (Also worth reporting is the fact that altho my credit card has a set limit the bank told me that this in no way prevents scammers accessing your account and pushing it over the limit). CAVEAT EMPTOR indeed.
