Breville Ikon Kettle - didn't last!!!

I brought a Breville Ikon kettle in April for R790. I WAS so chuffed with the new kettle! Last week the kettle tripped all my plugs in the house and didn't worked again. I took the kettle in to the Ballito branch where i bought it and the lady informed me that the kettle have only an one year warranty but she will contact head office and get back to me. Yesterday after a few calls that I have made to follow up she came back to me and informed me that they will not replace the R800 kettle that is now R990 but can send it in for repairs and if its the element they will not be able to repair and that I am liable for the repairs. I am more than willing to pay for the repairs within limit. Luckily I have my old kettle, Mellerware that i haven't paid for more than R120 that last for more than seven years now and still going. This expensive Breville Ikon kettle didn't even last for 2 years only 1 year and 5 months. If Breville is such a good make and have so much confidence in their product why didn't they offer a 2 year warranty on their products? I am not going to pay almost a R1000 every year for a kettle.
