I recently had the "pleasure" of having a rangehood "repaired" by this company. To replace a globe in the hood I had the privelege of being charged almosty $150!!
I rang the company to express my outrage at the cost and asked for a breakdown of the charge. I was told I paid $106 for a service call, $22 labour to replace and "test" the globe and there was the cost of the globe itself which I was told "cost more than $2" - a very patronising comment.
I was told "thats the way it is as we need to make money" They did not care about my thoughts or try to discuss the matter further. I asked if they were at all embarrassed by what they had charged me and again was told "thats the way it is".
While I don't begrudge anyone making a living I do believe in a fair charge for any work. I object to paying heart surgeon rates for such a menial service which we pay for home appliances. The industry is a closed shop with no competition. Everyone charges! These are highly unethical work practices. Does anyone know of an industry where so called repairers with few if any qualifications charge over $100 just to come to the door and then $22 for every 15 minutes after that! Its cheaper for me to visit my doctor or even dentist!
The more we stand up to such outrageous rip off practices we will hopefully be one step closer to an inquiry into these practices that are nothing more that scam to line owner's pockets with quick and meaty profits!!!
