Logged on to a "free" adult site. Credit info required for "age verification only". I stupidly gave it. I was then informed that I had signed up for a free trial period in something (I forget the name) and would be billed after 10 days. I immediately cancelled. I actually recieved a verification that I had indeed cancelled.
I then began getting charges on my credit card. I have instructed my card company not to pay the charges and have even cancelled the card (Chase Visa). They informed me that although no NEW charges would be accepted on that card, that they would continue to honor any charges from companies that were currently being paid.
In other words, datesnow was free to charge whatever they liked, provide NO service, and I would be responsible for paying the bill. I WILL NOT pay them a penny. However, I am now quite concerned about ruining my credit. This ability to extort is of course, where these criminals get their power. I urge anyone who has been victimized by these people to resist the urge to give in to demands that they may make. Every penny they recieve only encourages tehm to continue.
